The white wines of the Antinoris: Castello della Sala

The Antinori family not only produces and sells excellent red wines and sparkling wines. They have also been increasingly devoted to white wine production since the 1980s. The vineyards of the Castello della Sala estate, situated not far from Orvieto, are cultivated with popular varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, Pinot Bianco, Viognier, Traminer and Riesling as well as with traditional grape varieties such as Procanico and Grechetto. The so-called Cervaro della Sala was developed in 1985 as one of the first Italian white wines to be aged in barriques, and is still produced today. The wine contains a share of Grechetto and Chardonnay grapes. Yet the Antinori family also produces single-variety wines in Umbria such as the Chardonnay Bramito Umbria IGT or cuvées made from classic white wine grapes such as the Conte della Vipera Umbria IGT, consisting of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The Muffato della Sala, a sweet wine created in exceptional vintages, is also worthy of mention.
