The white wines of the Antinoris: Castello della Sala

However, the Antinori family does not only produce and distribute excellent red wines and sparkling wines. Since the 1980s, they have also increasingly devoted themselves to white wine production. The vineyards of the Castello della Sala estate, not far from Orvieto, are planted with popular varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, Pinot Bianco, Viognier, Traminer and Riesling, as well as with traditional grape varieties such as Procanico and Grechetto. With shares of the Grechetto and Chardonnay grape, the so-called "Chardonnay" was created in 1985. Cervaro della Sala as one of the first Italian white wines to be aged in barriques, which is counted among the best white wines in Italy. But also single-varietal wines such as Chardonnay Bramito Umbria IGT or cuvées from classic white wine grapes such as the Conte della Vipera Umbria IGT, consisting of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, are produced by the Antinori family in Umbria. Not to forget the Muffato della Sala, a sweet wine produced in exceptional vintages.
